We put in the work inside the gym so we can go live big, bold, interesting lives outside the gym.
Sure, you might not think much about your max deadlift weight on your last day on earth—but you might remember that time you hiked the Long Trail, ran your first marathon, or took on that Spartan race you thought was way out of your league. And guess what? All those squats, push-ups, and bike sprints helped you get there.
Currently, Kyle and I are trying to squeeze in as many long gravel rides and mountain bike outings as we can before school sports consume our lives again. Meanwhile, our members are training for epic trail runs, tackling obstacle races, hiking for days (or even weeks!) at a time, riding their bikes, swimming across lakes, paddling down rivers, and generally making the most of the strength and endurance they’ve built here.
Here’s the thing:
Few of us will be the smartest in our circle.
Few of us will be the best-looking.
Few of us will be the wealthiest.
And let’s be honest—none of us are likely to win the CrossFit Games.
But all of us can be interesting. And nothing opens the door to an interesting, adventurous life quite like fitness.
You don’t need a big bank account to run a marathon. You don’t need to be a pro athlete to ride 100 miles or climb a mountain. But doing those things will make you a whole lot more interesting than the average millionaire or model—and the best part? They’ll give you stories worth telling for the rest of your life.
When we’re old and gray, we won’t be counting our money or scrolling through filtered photos from 20 years ago. We’ll be telling stories. And those stories will be made up of moments when we stepped up, said yes, and challenged ourselves.
My goal at Deep Roots is to give you the tools—and the confidence—to say yes to more of those moments. Whether it’s running your first 5K, hiking with your kids without feeling winded, or crossing something big off your bucket list, the gym is your launchpad.
Having a goal is powerful. Having a plan to reach it is essential. But the real magic? Finishing with a story you can’t wait to share.
So get out there. Ride the bike. Hike the trail. Sign up for the race. Take the trip.
And let the gym help you write your best chapters yet.
